Quilt Raffle
2026 Bynum Front Porch Quilt Raffle!
A small group of Bynum-based quilters and sewists came together to make a community quilt to auction in benefit of the Bynum Front Porch. This quickly blossomed into a raffle of five quilts, two of which were made here in Bynum.
The raffle will run from July 1 to August 28 with the ticket drawing and winner announcements happening at the final BFP music series event of the year on Friday, August 28 from 7-8:30pm. Quilt 1 – Bynum Community Quilt (2026)
48” x 62”
The 2026 Bynum Community quilt project was headed by Katya Yegorov-Crate, Kym Wheeler, Maggie Frantz, and Kat Tucker. On April 18, 2026, neighbors and friends gathered at the Bynum General Store to make quilt blocks reflecting their love for Bynum, the village’s history and our community. Quilt blocks feature Clyde critters, the Haw River, and the historic water tower. The 1872 block commemorates the opening of the Bynum Mill and the buttons were sewn on using some of the last thread produced at the mill.
Quilt blocks (in order L to R on the quilt) were made by Kat T, Katya YC, Susie C, Hana R, Emma S, Debbie T, Jill R, Catherine D, Jenny T, Olivia D, Martha S, Jan B, Maggie F, Meera B, Kym W, Melissa R, Karen W, Kathy P, Laura M, Rue, Niko, Sharon L, Jenia M, Carolyn P, Evelyn, Anna W, and Lizzie G.
The quilt top was machine pieced by Katya Yegorov-Crate and Kat Tucker. The quilt was machine quilted and bound by Kym Wheeler.
Quilt 2 – Bynum Historic Houses Quilt (2026)
33.5” x 34”
Curated by Bynum native Martha Collins, this quilted wall hanging displays several historically significant buildings in the Bynum community. The buildings featured reflect the history of Bynum in the former mill worker homes on the “Mill Hill,” the Bynum United Methodist Church – the village’s historical house of worship, and the former homes of mill founders and brother Luther B. and Carney W. Bynum. This wall hanging includes a small bonus piece showing Bynum’s recently acquired historical marker. You can read more about Bynum’s historic buildings here, or scan the QR code at the bottom right corner of the quilt.
This wall hanging was machine pieced and quilted by Kym Wheeler with direction by Martha Collins.
*The building illustrations were created using AI.
