Nine Times Around is a North Carolina–based Irish/Celtic traditional band that’s part of the Triangle’s local pub and festival music scene, especially around Cary, Apex, and nearby towns.
Sound and style:
Nine Times Around focuses on traditional Irish music, typically including:
*Jigs, reels, and hornpipes
*Folk ballads and pub singalongs
*Instrumental sets rooted in Irish session culture
Their performances fit the informal, communal “session” tradition, where musicians often play in a circle and the energy builds organically rather than following a rigid set list.
Unlike some touring acts, Nine Times Around leans into:
Authenticity over spectacle
A relaxed, atmosphere
Audience participation (singing, clapping, sometimes dancing)
In short Nine Times Around isn’t a studio-focused band with a big commercial profile—they’re a grassroots Irish session band that helps keep traditional Celtic music alive in North Carolina. Their strength is in live performance, community connection, and recreating the feel of a lively Irish pub gathering rather than a formal concert.
The popular Bynum Front Porch Summer Music Series happens on warm summer evenings from 7:00–8:30 PM out at the old Bynum General Store.
The shows are FREE, though we do pass the hat to help take care of the musicians who share their songs with us. There’s always a food truck parked outside, and the whole thing feels less like a concert and more like neighbors gathering. Kids running around barefoot, folks leaning back in lawn chairs, and the sound of music drifting out across the Haw River valley.
Bring a chair if you like, or use one of ours, we’ve got plenty. Parking is free and easy in the field next door or down at the Bynum ball field. Just a couple simple house rules: no alcohol and no pets, please. Come on out, grab some supper and/or soft drinks & ice cream, settle in, and enjoy a sweet summer evening with the community.
Come rock with us.
No alcohol or pets, please; thanks!
