Mill Town Yarns monthly indoor performance series season 3 proudly presents: “Bynum Stories & Songs”
Part of a weekend of events celebrating the 20th anniversary of nonprofit Bynum Front Porch.
Free (donations welcome). Featuring:
Cynthia Raxter grew up on a dairy farm in the NC mountains, with six sisters and one fiendishly clever brother. She tells farm tales, Bynum stories and tales about Rascal, her Jack Russel terrorist. Cindy is responsible for starting storytelling events for Bynum Front Porch ten years ago.
Jimmy Magoo is a happy dad, singer-songwriter, actor, educator, playwright, poet, and puppeteer. He has lived in and around Bynum for 25 years. The song about Clyde Jones he’s performing was written by Alison Pollowitz (copyright 2026).
From our bi-monthly Bynum bluegrass/acoustic jam:
Eulane Mellon, Mebane songwriter, crafts "Sweet Tea Strong" roots music with a soulful blend of folk, bluegrass, and country sass. Backed by vocals described as pure and authentic, her melodic storytelling pulls from influences like James Taylor and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
Will Dowling is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter based in Bynum, North Carolina. His music ranges from folk and rock n’ roll to ragtime and jazz standards.
Virgil Johnson is a lifelong Bynum resident and prolific folks artist, whose paintings can be seen hanging in the store.
Emma Skurnick is a professional illustrator/arts educator and longtime Bynum resident whose book Becoming a Local: Letters from a Small Town captures the humor, characters, and everyday stories of life in this historic mill town. Through her illustrated essays, Emma celebrates the people and small moments that weave a community together.
Britt Wilson is a local composer and lyricist who believes in the power of song to humanize and unite. She partners with other writers to create songs that help people tell their stories. When she's not writing songs, she is either teaching middle school math, walking, hanging with family, or eating good food.
Blake Tedder is a Hillsborough singer-songwriter whose music draws from a deep sense of place and spirituality. His songs weave myth, nature, memory, and heart into a sound that is both earthy and contemplative.
Bobby Gales grew up in Bynum and is known for having taught legions of local people how to play guitar, banjo, mandolin & bass. His professional gospel band New Directions Bluegrass performs regularly throughout at the state, and annually at the Bynum Front Porch Christmas event!
