Bil Lepp is an award-winning storyteller, author, and recording artist coming to Bynum from wild and wonderful West Virginia!

​In 2011, Bil was awarded the National Storytelling Network’s Circle of Excellence Award. Lepp has been featured 19 times at the National Storytelling Festival, and performed at major storytelling festivals around the county, at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and at corporate events and functions. Lepp has been featured on and hosted NPR’s internationally syndicated Mountain Stage, and he’s the host of the History Channel’s Man Vs History series.

He is the recipient of the Vandalia Award, West Virginia’s highest folk honor.

Bil’s humorous, family friendly tall-tales and stories have earned the appreciation of listeners of all ages and from all walks of life. Though a five time champion of the WV Liars’s Contest, Lepp’s stories often contain morsels of truth which present universal themes in clever and witty ways. Audiences all across the country, from grade schools to corporate execs to the Comedy Central’s Hudson stage, have been delighted by Bil’s hilarious tales and delightful insights into everyday life.

Michael Reno Harrell is an award winning songwriter, a published author, a nationally known storyteller and a visual artist. And, he’s from the Southern Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina where all those things are as much a part of life as breathing. Michael’s talents have taken him to forty-four states and several foreign countries over his over fifty plus year career. His work is based in life experiences that reflect the culture of his mountain roots, which go back eight generations. But Michael’s stories, songs and artworks reflect not only the southern experience, but also American’s story. His work, in whichever form it may take, all comes down to one thing...story.

One could compare Michael's performances to his granddaddy's pocket knife: well worn and familiar feeling, but razor sharp and with a point. His brand of entertainment appeals to a very diverse audience.

Michael's natural knack for storytelling, in print, song and spoken word has earned him praise from not only the music community but from the literary and storytelling worlds as well, having had the honor of being a Featured Teller at the National Storytelling Festival and Teller In Residence at the International Storytelling Center, as well as performing at major music events like MerleFest and the Walnut Valley Festival. Along with his performances, Michael often conducts workshops in songwriting and storytelling as well.

His humor and wit, as well as the emotional depth of his work, keep his fan base growing and staying tuned in for whatever comes next. Don’t miss the chance to experience what those faithful fans keep returning again and again to enjoy.

Josh Goforth is a highly accomplished storyteller and acoustic musician, playing close to 20 different instruments, who has performed in all 50 US states, all over Europe, Asia, and Australia; he’s performed at The Grand Ole Opry, The Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall!

He must have been born musical—he was already playing piano in church at the age of four— but it was an experience he had in the sixth grade that really lit the fuse of his precocious musical career. A performance at Goforth's middle school by Sheila Kay Adams caused him to start thinking about the musical heritage and stories of his native Madison County, NC. Josh was able to listen and learn from local masters like Gordon and Arvil Freeman and Jerry Adams.. After high school he went to East Tennessee State University to study music education,a nd to be a part of ETSU's famous Bluegrass and Country Music Program. 

In 2000, he played fiddle for the movie Songcatcher, both onscreen and on the soundtrack. He has toured extensively with a variety of ensembles, including the ETSU Bluegrass band, David Holt, Laura Boosinger, and with several bluegrass bands like Appalachian Trail, the Josh Goforth Trio, the Steep Canyon Rangers and Open Road. 

 In 2000, 2003, and 2005, he was named Fiddler of the Festival at Fiddler's Grove and, after winning the third title, was designated "Master Fiddler" and retired from that competition. In 2009 he was nominated for a Grammy for his album with David Holt entitled "Cutting Loose". He currently is on faculty at the Academy for the Arts in Asheville and performs all over the world.

Lawrence "Lipbone" Redding is an American songwriter, guitarist, singer, composer, performance artist, and voicestrumentalist. He is most noted for his ability to vocally imitate trombones, bass and percussion and incorporate them into live musical performances.  In addition, Redding also uses throat singing, which is one of the oldest forms of music found in a variety of cultures. 

His shows are all about the stories.  The songs become woven into a dynamic tapestry of storytelling and spoken word.  The music, like a magic carpet ride, invites the traveler aboard.

Lipbone’s unique talent and life have allowed him access to some amazing experiences, from subway musician to court jester of the elite. Allow him to regale you with entertaining insight and a dancing good time, as only this one-man orchestra can proffer.  Lipbone embodies a cosmic dance as he plays, sings, taps, and makes realistic instrument sounds with nothing more than his lips. The 8:59’s, a North Carolina based band formed in 2014, blend a range of influences to create a unique yet familiar sound. Based around the songwriting, harmonies, and guitars of Christian Fisher and Neville Handel, the band is rounded out by bassist Mike Beck and drummer Brad Goolsby. Echoes of Nashville, Athens, and Chapel Hill can be heard in the band’s songs, which draw from and cover genres from Americana and Alt-Country to Indie Rock.

Neville's Quarter is a toss up between either attending a goosebumps inducing inspirational folk concert or finally finding that chill campfire circle of friends that you've been searching for all your life. Whichever way the the show lands for you, you will leave feeling a richer state of mind. Neville's Quarter's collection of songs is playful enough for kids to dance to but also delivers more weighty topics for adults to ponder over, well after all the microphones are unplugged. Together, Brian Moyer and Lex Headley are a highly skilled musical force; they incorporate at least half a dozen instruments in each show and have hundreds of well crafted songs to share. Their main objective as musicians is to break open the shells that trap people inside, and they do so through the lyrics and melodies they share with each performance.

The Durham Ukulele Orchestra plays a delicious and cohesive “musical soup” that ranges from jazz standards to art rock classics like “Psycho Killer” by the Talking Heads. Blending these selections to the will of their tiny four-stringed instruments, the orchestra continues to turn out surprising and delightful renditions of familiar and slightly more obscure selections from the world of popular music. And although the band is very serious about what they do (as serious as ukuleleists can be), the central idea between D.U.O has always been fun. Fun music to play and fun tunes for the public to listen to.

Jon Shain is the 2019 International Blues Challenge winner in the solo duo category. Shain had the good fortune to learn directly from a number of NC's older blues players, and became a member of Big Boy Henry's backing band. He got his start playing his own music with old area favorite roots rockers Flyin' Mice. Jon was a finalist (along with FJ) in the 2009 International Blues Challenge in Memphis and the 2008 and 2018 winner of the Triangle Blues Society’s Blues Challenge and 2006 winner of NC’s Indy award for Best Folk Act. He has shared stages with the likes of Keb' Mo', John Hiatt, and Jackson Browne.

FJ Ventre and Jon began playing music together in 1982 when they met in high school. FJ went on to University of Massachusetts-Lowell, earning a B.A. in Music Performance and Sound Recording. He remained in the Boston area, performing in the city's vibrant music scene. Since relocating to Chapel Hill, NC in 2000, Ventre has performed with his own group The Swang Brothers, as well as most of the Triangle's roots acts. In addition to performing as a sought-after sideman, he spends his time behind the mixing board, engineering at his own Good Luck Studio.

Onyx Club Boys have teamed up with singer, Sophie Dal-Pra, for a special program of French music!

We'll take you on an enchanted musical journey of French Chansons, contemporary French music, Valse Musettes, Jazz Manouche, and more.

Born in France, Sophie grew up surrounded by French music, singing along to every song. The classic tunes of Edith Piaf, Yves Montand, Charles Trenet, Georges Brassens, Aznavour, and many more, became part of her being, like any other French person.

With Gabriel Pelli on violin and guitar, Brad Cokendolpher on guitar, Aaron Gross on upright bass, and Daniel Hall on drums.

Raleigh, North Carolina roots-rockers Jack the Radio blend rock and blues sensibility with Americana, folk, and country to create a tapestry of swampy southern-tinged sounds on their latest album release, Creatures. All of the songs on the album were written by singer George Hage with a common thread that weaves its way through telling us to stand strong as we ride out the highs and lows of what life throws at us.

Over the years, Jack The Radio has shared the stage with The Avett Brothers, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, George Thorogood, Cold War Kids, Rayland Baxter, and American Aquarium to name a few. Their music has been featured in countless commercial, film, and TV projects including Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire, Graceland, Beverly Hills 90210 as well as in sports programming for NASCAR, NFL, PGA among others.

A songwriter based in North Carolina, Django Haskins has fronted the pop-noir band, The Old Ceremony, since 2004. He also forms one half of the psych-folk duo Au Pair with the Jayhawks' Gary Louris. He has toured extensively, garnered a relentless smattering of critical praise, and had his music used in numerous film and TV projects. In 2016, he received the NC Arts Council's Artist Grant in recognition of his extensive creative exertions. He has been a part of the Big Star's Third travelling review since its inception in 2011, along with members of Big Star, REM, Wilco, Yo La Tengo, and the Kinks. He has released thirteen albums of his songs in various guises. Haskins wrote a song a week during the pandemic, resulting in over 115 new ones, some of which were released on his 2023 solo piano record, "Lost World." The Old Ceremony is currently recording their first studio album in eight years, which will also include a dozen more of these tunes, released in 2024 to mark the band's twenty year anniversary.

ZamBamBooGee, that’s pronounced with a soft gee sound is a local Chatham County/Pittsboro band. Our music is so danceable, drawing on a wide variety of influences. You will hear Originals, obscure, and familiar tunes, you will hear ~ Blues, Rock, Cajun, Funk, R&B, Reggae, Ballads, Jazz, Tango, World music & more.

We love what we do together. We have been called "A really fun band", "My new favorite local band" and other names (mostly Zambamboogie) as well. We love playing private parties, and the local music venues.

Lona Bartlett is a performance artist, storyteller, puppeteer and educator from Charlotte. Degrees in education and a small town upbringing in the Catskill Mountains open a gateway to a long list of presentations. No matter the genre, whether folktales, fairytales, puppets, or personal stories, Lona brings excitement and insight to stage and classroom. She designs and creates many of her puppets and sometimes runs a “puppet hospital.”

“Lona Bartlett engages audiences both large and small with a wide range of stories that entertain and delight. She is a storyteller who moves easily between adult and youth audiences ,evoking in both the many emotions of the human drama—laughter, awe, and wonder.”

Andy Russell grew up in the western Piedmont section of North Carolina, and the region and its people figure prominently in his stories and songs! His singing and storytelling style is authentic, funny, and poignant, and appeals to wide audiences. Andy has appeared at the 2024 Georgia Mountain Storytelling Festival, “A Taste of Storytelling” in LaGrange, GA and the Florida Storytelling Festival, and was selected as a “New Voice” teller for the 2023 Stone Soup Storytelling Festival.

In June 2024, Andywon the Open Mike Story Slam competition for Six Feet Apart Productions. Andy lives in Ocala, Florida with two dogs and a three-legged cat.

Chris Wise considers himself a "story-finder" as much as a storyteller. He finds stories—and songs — hidden within his own and others' lives. And, from time to time, he just makes stuff up. He settled in Raleigh 30 years ago after a career as a soldier. You’ll enjoy how he “makes little effort to separate song, story, truth, meditations on the meaning of truth, and outright lies. “

The Radio is a Pittsboro-based trio playing Americana, rockabilly, old school country, and even a little jazz and soul thrown in the mix. The band features Eck McCanless (guitar/vocals), Jon Baughman (upright bass), and Mark Murphy (drums). Small footprint, big sound! The Radio performs an ever-growing list of originals and curated covers, perfect for casual listening or hitting the dance floor.

Donna Washington is an award-winning internationally known master storyteller, artist-educator, and author who has been providing workshops and performing for audiences of all ages for over thirty-six years. She is renowned for her storytelling for both children & adults from poignant & funny fables about the human condition to racy relationships stories to spine-tingling tales of terror. She has been featured at numerous festivals, schools, libraries, theaters and other venues around the world including Canada, Peru, Ireland Argentina & Hong Kong. During the pandemic, she presented over two hundred shows & workshops virtually online. In 2020, she co-founded the non-profit organization Artists Standing Strong Together with Master Storyteller Sheila Arnold for which they won a 2021 Oracle Award. In 2022 she received the Coleen Salley Storytelling Award.

Donna's eleven storytelling CDs have garnered thirty national awards. She has authored numerous articles about storytelling and education including her very popular blog Language, Literacy & Storytelling. She is also the author of six children’s books: Li’l Rabbit’s Kwanzaa, A Pride of African Tales, The Story of Kwanzaa, A Big Spooky House, award winning Boo Stew, and her latest book, Prak Fills The House. She travels all over the world performing and presenting workshops. She lives with her husband and cat in Durham, NC.

Rebecca Newton calls herself a “North Carolina-based old hippie chick musician turned author who’s done everything but jump out of an airplane (but there’s still time).”

Her 7-piece swing/early jazz/R&B band, “Rebecca & The High Tones,” was a NC institution for 30 years. Rebecca has been commissioned by National Public Radio to write and produce feature music for “All Things Considered,” has composed music for several theatrical productions, and co-produced a documentary with Clyde Edgerton. Her latest solo album is “Riding Ponies to the Moon“, which she refers to as a “Music Storybook.” Ponies points to various chapters in her southern novel called “A Simple but Kind Gesture on What Was Otherwise an Ordinary Day.” The novel is Newton’s first prose project.

Connie B. Steadman was part of legendary trio, The Badgett Sisters, an American folk and gospel group from Yanceyville, NC, and recipients of a 1990 North Carolina Heritage Award, who began singing together in 1933 and consisted of sisters Celester, Connie, and Cleonia Badgett. Under their father's tutelage, beginning at ages 4-6, the Badgett Sisters learned to sing spirituals, hymns, and gospel songs in the jubilee style, a form popular in the 1930s and 1940s with unaccompanied close harmony learned from their father, Cortelyou Odell Badgett (1905-1978). The Badgett Sisters traveled around the world and performed at Carnegie Hall. As of 2019, “Connie B.” performs as an acappella musician and storyteller solo artist throughout North Carolina.

Cedric Tillman received a BA in English from UNC Charlotte and graduated from American University's Creative Writing MFA program. His poems have appeared in journals and anthologies including RHINO, The Manhattanville Review, Solstice Literary Magazine, The Florida Review, and Kakalak. In 2017, his poem "the flag" received Special Mention recognition for the Pushcart Foundation's Pushcart Prize.

His debut collection, entitled LILIES IN THE VALLEY, was published by Willow Books in 2013. After receiving semifinalist and finalist recognition for the University of Akron, Cleveland State University, and Press 53 poetry prizes among others, IN MY FEELINS was published by WordTech Poetry in 2020. Cedric lives in Charlotte.

Liz Z Pardue is a storyteller, writer, director, and folklorist from North Carolina who has a penchant for exploring history’s darkest corners. The founder of Sisterhood of Spirits, LLC, Liz operates ghost tours and spooky historical theatrical productions from her home in Fuquay-Varina, the most haunted small town in the South.
