Squier Red & The Blues Band

Bynum Front Porch is thrilled to share the news that Squier Red & The Blues band recorded a live album of their performance this past summer during our Friday Night Music Series.

The album is called "An Expected End, Squier Red & The Blues Band Live at Bynum Front Porch".

We are honored to have hosted this band on more than one occasion and wish them all the best with their new album.

Steph Stewart and the Boyfriends
7 pm to 9 pm

Reaching beyond the lonely grit of mountain music, four piece string band Steph Stewart & the Boyfriends hearkens the richness of the Americana Folk Revival at its finest. Hailing from Chapel Hill, Steph Stewart & the Boyfriends is fronted by singer-songwriter Steph Stewart on guitar and banjo and features Omar Ruiz-Lopez on fiddle and mandolin, Mario Arnez on guitar and Nicholas Vandenberg on upright bass. Together, Steph and her boyfriends deliver a haunting sound both unique and satisfyingly familiar, fusing old Appalachia and top-shelf Americana.

The Bluegrass Battleship is a rootsy juggernaut of epic proportions. With seven musicians, the Battleship is larger (and, of course, better) than most. The crew – Jane, Catherine, Scott, Mel, Marc, Danny and Terry – are all on board having fun, and you will be, too — singing along, dancing, or just tapping your foot. It's impossible not to be part of this great American music. Played with skill and love for the music, The Bluegrass Battleship sails straight and true.

Join us the second Saturday of the month at 7 pm (doors open at 6:45) for Bynum Front Porch Bingo. Win prizes in cash with our 50/50 games. Each game is $1 for 3 cards and you can play as many $1 cards as you wish. There will be 5 prize games (each prize worth at least $10), then a 50/50 game. This game costs $5 and the winner takes half the pot (hence 50/50). We'll follow with 5 more prize games and a final 50/50 game to end the night and wrap things up around 9 pm. This is a great opportunity to gather with your friends and neighbors, have a good time and support the programs and educational grants we help provide.

City Folk

CityFolk is an acoustic folk group that plays their own original compositions as well as music spanning from acoustic contemporary folk to country folk/rock. Originally based in Washington, D.C., but now residing in North Carolina, the group consists of Jane Muldoon-Smith (lead vocals, guitar, and mandolin), along with husband Peter Smith (lead and background vocals, lead 6 and 12 string guitars, mandolin, and guitar synthesizer) and their daughter, Joanna, on upright bass.

Chapel Hill's Rootzie provides a rattle of rock and roll, a jolt of jazz, a burst of the blues, a cut or two of country, grand moments of gospel, a blast of bluegrass, and roots reggae revelry.

Bobby Gales and New Direction
7 pm to 9 pm

New Direction plays bluegrass gospel and traditional bluegrass music. They came together to form not only a great bluegrass gospel sound, but also wonderful friendships between the band members, their families, and their home churches. Since the band formed in 2006, they have enjoyed playing for churches, schools, fundraising events, parties, bluegrass events, and jamming together. Their musical selections are predominately gospel by choice.

Durham Ukulele Orchestra

The Durham Ukulele Orchestra is a genre busting ensemble whose love for music is rivaled only by the love they have for their favorite little instrument. Skillfully blending selections from the great American songbook, the best of classic rock, and a bit of the indie-alternative scene, the Durham Ukulele Orchestra has fashioned a sound that is both unique and foot-stompingly entertaining. So if the only thing a ukulele reminds you of is tiptoeing through the tulips, come let the Durham Ukulele Orchestra give you a new point of reference.

Bluegrass Experience
7 pm to 9 pm

The Bluegrass Experience has been a vital force in the North Carolina/Southeastern Bluegrass scene for over 30 years.  Since being named the World’s Champion Bluegrass Band in 1972, the group has performed professionally throughout the eastern half of the United States and has appeared on many major festivals, done numerous college concerts, recorded 3 albums and appeared at The Finnish National Folk Festival. Members have worked or recorded with some of the greats of the genre including: Bill Monroe, Chubby Wise, Bobby Hicks, Jimmy Mills, Roland White, Wilma Lee Cooper, Gene Wooten and many others.

Khalat Africa

Khalat Africa features Senegalese griot Diali Keba Cissokho—a vocalist, percussionist, dancer, and master of the kora (a 21-string African harp). Diali hails from a famed lineage of musicians and storytellers traceable to the 14th century in his native West Africa.

Franklin Street Traditional Jazz Band

The Franklin Street Traditional Jazz Band is a relatively new, eight-member band formed by musicians from throughout the Triangle Area who share an interest in the early form of jazz, principally as it emerged in New Orleans at the beginning of the last century.  The band offers a varied program of classic acoustic jazz featuring recognizable melodies of interest to audiences of all ages.  Their music is both toe-tapping and dance-inducing, or just comfortable for listening or singing along.

John Howie Jr. and the Rosewood Bluff

Singer/songwriter/guitarist John Howie, Jr., former frontman for North Carolina honky-tonk heroes Two Dollar Pistols, keeps his rustic, burning voice on full display with his new outfit the Rosewood Bluff. Playing earnest songs from the heart, they put a soulful sheen on a sound that’s more country than alt.

Squier Red & The Blues Band are from all walks of life who live to play the blues. All the members of the band are members of Squier Red's Blues Performers Meetup Group. Blues in its purest form is raw and unprocessed and comes from the heart. All members of this Meetup Group pay to play together a few times a month with their love of the blues as their motivation for playing.

Zambamboogee is a five-piece band that performs originals and covers from many styles of dance music. All members have performed in the Triangle music scene in solo and band settings for years.
